JACK COLWELL – Joining forces with The Owlchestra and Rainbow Chan

09 Feb 2012

Sydney’s classically-trained composer turned alt-pop muso, Jack Colwell, shows no signs of slowing down; ready to ride the next wave he will release single #2 “Captain’s Melody” this March from the debut album ‘Picture Window’ due for release mid-year.

Colwell’s performances are described as dramatic, and often confronting. This time around his band, The Owls, has evolved into The Owlchestra – an octet (strings, flute, bassoon, clarinet and oboe) + piano, arranged by Hayden Woolf (ABC) and Miles Horler. Jack and band, in association with CHAOS (Conservatorium High Association of Old Students), will launch “Captain’s Melody” with a special Chamber Orchestra event at Sydney’s prestigious Conservatorium of Music on March 30th. The night will also feature indie-experimental songstress Rainbow Chan.

Following from the first single “Hopechest” (released late last year), “Captain’s Melody” takes the listener on a journey over the seven seas. You’ll discover melodic flute solos, blissful string sections and the catchy ‘La La La La’s ‘ will create a majestic atmosphere for a euphoric music adventure.

Jack is no stranger to the music scene, having toured the country and performed at popular boutique festivals including Sydney’s Surry Hills Festival and This Is Not Art Festival. He’s also been seen singing on stage at the Sydney Opera House with Architecture In Helsinki; toured with Brendan Maclean (JJJ, Great Gatsby Star); worked with Daisy M Tulley (Bridezilla); and combined talents with multi-instrumentalist/commedian Genevieve Fricker. Outside of the studio, Colwell has also been busy contributing to Sydney’s vibrant culture scene – featuring on the soundtrack for Belvoir Street Theatre’s play ‘Whore’, and collaborating on ‘Being Born Again’, a cross-pollination of projects from the music and fashion industries.
