LESTER THE FIERCE – The Summer Deluge
01 Nov 2011
Lester The Fierce is the newest project from Anita Lester, the irresistable chanteuse who is set to release her stunning debut EP ‘The Summer Deluge’ this November.
Formerly of Melbourne band ‘Me and the Growunps’, Lester – the visual artist turned performer – describes her music as ‘dark cinematic folk rock’ with the lyrics playing an integral part of Lester The Fierce. A well-known individual in the Melbourne creative scene, Lester has sung at various local and interstate events, including Old Melbourne Gaol (a highly successful Radiohead tribute concert), the iconic Speigeltent and more.
‘The Summer Deluge’ EP comprises of four songs – each bleak but beautiful and full, surrounding the subject in title – the songs portrays the feeling of rain and water in the heat of the Australian Summer. In true form, Lester illustrates her experiences of love and death in a unique and often graphic way. There is a certain discomfort about the subject matter, however, it is adequately balanced by her gritty but classical voice. Recorded by Colin Leadbetter (responsible for records such as Whitely’s ‘Go Forth, Find Mammoth’), ‘The Summer Deluge’ maintains an organic and almost nostalgic feel. The songs are reminiscent of 1960’s folk, but also have the production values to support the cinematic and Kate Bush-esque influences.
