DJ SOUP – UberSoup

13 Apr 2011

With his early productions created in 8 bit with a whopping 2 MB at his disposal, Soup has been responsible for planting the seeds of Australian hip-hop as part of hip hop pioneers the Fonke Knomaads, as well as contributing to the ground breaking ‘Souperloops’, which landed the first ever Album of the Week nod for a local hip-hop release on triple j.

DJ Soup went on to collaborate with Gift of Gab from Blackalicious and Swollen Members on later work, before his more recent effort Beatroot (The Edible Root of the Beat) was released on Invada Records, home of Koolism, Space Invadas, Katalyst, and Dynamo Productions.

On Ubersoup, Soup reconnects with the recently reborn Creative Vibes label to serve up the bouncy beats and sampology that have become his calling card, while introducing some newfound and previously unexplored influences.

The sound clash of dusty 50s Rhythm & Blues and 80s Synth Pop, shimmering with the wonders of modern computers is tempered with soulful vocals from the likes of Evelyn Duprai, Damien Millar and Holly Austin.

With Deep, wobbling dubstep-inspired bass lines, honking saxophones and warm old-world production, Ubersoup is an album true to form with a variety of hip-hop and twisted electronic styles to keep those synapses tingling.
