HALLOWEEN MONSTER MASH

15 Oct 2010

So, it’s almost Halloween.  Before you turn into a pumpkin, get your scariest-looking friends together and celebrate that one time of year where it’s socially acceptable for men to wear make-up, excessive confectionary consumption and where being ugly could win you a door prize.

The evening will be headlined by local indie-rockers (also adored abroad), Dappled Cities, who will be giving fans once last chance to curl their ears around their spectral brand of experimental pop before they go deep underground (well, into the studio) to record their third album.  With vocal talents alternately celestial and frenetic, the band are said to be able to “conjure images of cold, distant heavens.”  Find out what other spirits the quintet are able to conjure up during their final performance for quite some time.

Providing terrifyingly entertaining soundscapes for the rest of the night will be unhinged pop virtuoso SPOD, Queensland creationism-deniers Last Dinosaurs, Sydney Shoegazers The Laurels, the ghoulish Guineafowl, frightening Fishing and the monstrous sounds of Magnetic Heads. And if that’s not enough to satisfy your blood-lust, hellish hipster DJ’s from the Who The Hell kingdom will be on hand to make your blood boil.

If you’re still not convinced this is enough to haunt your dreams until next year then wait until you hear about the fire-breathers, giant spiders, burlesque dancers, absinthe stand, bobbing for apples, a human vending machine and stand up creepy comics. Not to mention Jelly Belly’s ‘guess how many jelly beans’ competition. Okay, the last bit’s not scary, but it’s fun, so let’s not quibble.

If none of this sounds like fun to you then you’re clearly dead inside, which means this is the perfect place to be. So get your hag-rags on and come dressed as your favourite creature of the night. If you’re having trouble choosing what to wear, don’t scream – local freaky-fashion-aficionados, Snog The Frog (website below), are offering a 10% discount on dreaded threaded attire prior to the night (just mention the gig when you enter the eerie empire) – and don’t forget, the best costume on the night will go home with a human heart.*

In the ‘spirit’ of Halloween, all guests will receive a bag of treats for their stumble home (assuming they make it back alive… Muahaha). Shockingly good value.

*Actual prizes will not include any part of the human body, but may contain traces of nuts.
