KIDS AT RISK – Kiss It Dark
30 Aug 2010
Following on from their debut self-titled EP, KIDS AT RISK have roped in some friends to give their tracks a rinse and re-interpretation. With the likes of Mark Ronson facebook friend Danimals, electronic upstarts Bon Chat Bon Rat and dance pop protagonists Convaire let loose, the end result is a refreshing demonstration of unbridled creativity coupled with serious talent.
Turntable technician Mickey Morphingaz, soundscape sculptors the High Highs, and exciting up-and-comer Seabourne also jump on the band wagon to add their own unique touch onto the KIDS AT RISK tracks Structures On The Moon, I Am A Fire and fan fave Sugar.
Sugar has Danimals steer it down a distinctly different road away from its pop punk origins with a driving broken beat re-take, with the High Highs offering up stripped back, breezy slice of downtempo. Convaire transform Structures On The Moon into a bright, saccharine sweet, synth driven re-working, while Seabourne take the same song and give it a dramatic, dreamy makeover.
Bon Chat Bon Rat, and Mickey Morphingaz both keep a dark tinge to their re-working’s of I Am A Fire. Bon Chat Bon Rat employ choppy vocals and haunting keys while Mickey’s dubstep-esque re-imagining keeps it equally dark albeit with a hypnotic bass line and trademark scratches.
