Leichhardt Council and FBI 94.5FM Presents… FLIGHTPATH FESTIVAL
24 Feb 2010
Focusing on local music and the local community, Leichhardt Council presents a new music festival located in the heart of the municipality at the Sydney College of The Arts, Callan Park, Rozelle. Expanding on the foundations and traditions of their previous roots-based festival, under the guise of Acoustica, the Leichhardt Council have decided to bring a more expansive genre of musical delights to the proverbial table with the new incarnation, Flightpath Festival.
The area was recently littered with the cream of the indie crop at the infamous Laneway Festival, which saw the likes of Mumford & Sons, Florence & The Machine and the XX grace the grounds. On Sunday 28th March from 12pm-6pm, Flightpath Festival will utilise the same area, focusing on local family life as well as the interest of local youths.
With two stages, one focussing on local youth acts and the main stage showcasing an eclectic range of styles from jazz to gypsy and psychedelic indie pop, Flightpath Festival is sure to be an event to tantalise everybody’s local music and cultural tastebuds. Flightpath Festival also aims to encourage those out of the direct community to join in for the festivities.
Headlined by local heroes, the Snowdroppers, whose debut album arrived in the ARIA Top 100, will be bringing their “accomplished swamp blues” to the main stage. Also sharing the stage will be the colourful troupe of indie pop darlings, Cuthbert & The Nightwalkers, who have received glowing national reviews for both their songwriting sensibilities as well as their epic live shows. For those more intrigued by the aural delight of gypsy melodies, local folk quintet Lolo Lovina will offer an explosive set filled with their trademark high energy performance that has seen them support some of the greatest music revolutionaries including Rachid Taha for Brian Eno’s Luminous Festival.
For the less musically inclined, Flightpath Festival will don a selection of sustainable-focused market and food stalls, including homemade lemonade, gelato, Latin American delights and a chocolate fountain, as well as art workshops lead by both indigenous artists and SCA students for those wanting to take a more hands on approach.
